@bwabbellast year Remember not to use a screwdriver or any other metallic tools to press down the clip. In case you slip off you don't want to kill your entire mainboard 91
  • @
@dahajacklast year Ah getting this in my feed right after getting the techquickie video about separating the terms GPU and Graphics Card, good times. 5
  • @
@JonathanSteadman2003last year Some graphics cards dont need the cable from the power supply. Just plug in a play. 1
  • @
@enovalelast year Note to anyone who wants to actually apply this info: Do not just "use whatever you got".
Only use soft plastic or anything you wouldnt mind stabbing directly into your PCB if youre going to apply any amount of pressure. If you're low on space its very easy for your tool to slip off the lock and stab into the motherboard.
If the lock doesnt move unless you put pressure on (like in the case of a stuck GPU or sometimes just because of a finnicky lock), dont use screwdrivers, knives or anything metal.

@bluemio7349last year I feel like sth that is MANDATORY to mention here is that you FUNDAMENTALLY (especially with todays GPUs power draw) check whether you need to upgrade your power supply unit. 108

@iustininfinite68413 months ago Final step - GPU keeps crashing due to Windows automatically installing drivers. Unplug the Ethernet cord, go into safe mode, do a full DDU uninstall of the drivers, boot back into Windows, install the drivers, and plug your Ethernet cord back in. ... 1

Step 3: Cross your fingers and hope that a mutation you get will yield you a 3rd kidney that you can sell and buy a new GPU.
Then continue with the short steps to upgrade.

  • @
@matamanthemasterlast year No need to unplug your PSU, just flick off the switch and turn on to drain capacitors. While plugged in and with the switch flicked off you get the computer connected to ground which helps with static discharge 53

@laffi8 months ago I used some wooden chopsticks from the sushi restaurant. The hard part was that the clip wouldn't move at all, until I did it at the angle OP uses. Then it went right up, and I could pull out the old GPU. The new 4060 Ti Ghost went so smooth in, that I didn't even hear the click. ...

  • @
@spentcasing399010 months ago Little tip for those who have big air coolers and can't reach the pci-e tab. Use a wooden chopstick. It's more then long enough to reach. And less chance of damaging your motherboard if you slip.

  • @
@maxschmidt8410last year Don't unplug the computer, only turn off the switch. Otherwise ground connection is missing and this may lead into damage if not otherwise ESD protected. 4
  • @
@graxo3752last year It's also always a good idea to hold the power button on devices to discharge any stored power in the circuitry
  • @
@Bartjuuh10 months ago Extra tip before turning of the computer use DDU to uninstall your drivers. Later after replacing you can install them again.
  • @
@thk.g00fylast year Suggestion: DON'T unplug! You would remove the grounding from the PC, which you can use to ground yourself to remove any static charge from your body. Touching the contacts of your PC or GPU can damage the electronic and basically turn it into a BRICK!! ... 12

@evanjohnson1299last year I had a cousin who upgraded to a premium gaming computer for the first time(used a APU computer before that) and complained that the games aren't any faster or even slower than before, before spending money to get it looked at my aunt asked me to look at it(I'm the most tech savey relative nearby). I thought that maybe some drivers needed to be updated, but i always make sure everything is plugged in first. He had the monitor connected to the motherboard instead of the GPU once switched over it all worked much better, helped him update everything for best results though ...
  • @
@bwfishingandproduction6168last year One thing if you change your gpu brand make sure to uninstall all of the drivers form the card of the old card.

  • @
@nipu_moto8 months ago you forgot to update drivers before you get ready to game
  • @
@Xx_Reddit_Girl_xXlast year Funny thing is right. My case was built for specific parts. Tight fit almost no space for storage. So I decided I would upgrade my GPU and while doing so had to use tin snips to remove the DVD reader cage so it would fit. My PC now sits with an SSD hanging out the side no side panel. Gpu held in with paperclips threw the mounting holes since my case didn't have the correct placement. I've been trying to save up for a new pc cause I legit can't upgrade any further but that paycheck to paycheck life makes it difficult to do so. ...
  • @
@Goodsdogslast month Red Linus is funny bc I can tell he’s pushing himself and been getting so much better
