Hello I’m Sophie. Welcome to the beginning of my sewing journey, come along with me through all the mistakes and seam ripping! And hopefully feel some solidarity that there are others bumbling their way through this hobby. This video is the second part in making a 1780’s Italian gown with the American Duchess Guide to 18th Century Dressmaking. Many in the costuming communities have made their own “IKEA Gowns” because it is a great cheap way to get fabric in an 18th century appropriate pattern (Just search #IKEAGown on Instagram for inspiration). In this video I will be creating the petticoat and foundational bum pad which will give me the correct silhouette for the 1780’s *Disclaimer* I am very much an amateur seamstress and make many mistakes. Pattern: American Duchess Pattern- https://www.american-duchess.com/book/american-duchess-guide Materials Used: Outer Fabric- My specific duvet has been discontinued but there are many similar available https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kaellfraene-duvet-cover-and-pillowcase-s-white-blue-90469620/ Sewing Machine- Husqvarna Viking 100 that I got used Cutting Mat and Ruler- https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000B7K9UI?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Music from iMovie library I was inspired by many channels here which focus on Historical Costuming to finally try to do it on my own, even though I have almost no experience sewing.
