Link of placement in IMU -KC:/watch/ob2ZSQdyhHlyZ The In dian Maritime University (IMU) was established on 14th November 2008 as a teaching-cum-affiliating university under the aegis of the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, with Chennai as headquarters. It was set up to promote mar itime studies, training, research and extension with focus on emerging areas like oceanography, ma ritime history, ma ritime laws, maritime security, sea rch and rescue, transportation of dangerous cargo, environmental studies and other related fields, and to achieve excellence in these areas. There were 7 renowned legacy teaching or research institutes under the Ministry of Shipping, and these were subsumed under the In dian Maritime University in November 2008. The institutes Training Ship Chanakya which was situated in Navi Mumbai became Navi Mumbai Campus while the L al Bahadur Sh astri College of Ad vanced Maritime St udies & Resea rch and the Marine Engineer ing Resea rch Institute became the Mumbai Port Campu s of In dian Maritime University. Similarly Marine Engineer ing Resea rch Institute and In dian Institute of Port Management became the Kolkata Camp us of the University. The National Ship Design and Resea rch Centre in Visakhapatnam and the National Maritime Academy in Chennai became the Visakhapatnam and Chennai Camp uses respectively. Post-November 2008, Kochi Camp us was set up in 2009. The University also has 18 Affiliated Institutes. IMU is the ap ex institution in the field of Maritime E ducation in India. The university ¶Vsignificance can be viewed from the axial role it is playing by imparting best Maritime Education and tapping best talents for the Maritime sector. As per the directives of the Ministry of Shipping , IMU will conduct a Common Entrance Test (IMU -CET) on all India basis for admission in Directorate General of Shipping ( DGS) approved Maritime Training Institute s (MTIs ) from Academic Year 2020-21.
