They can not reflect light. But diamond and graphite have fine lustre. 4) Hardness Non-metals are soft and brittle in nature. Sulphur can be cut with the help of knife But Diamond is hard, it is a non-metal 5) Sonority Non-metals are non-sonorous. They do not produce sound when struck with hard substances. 6) Density Non-metals have very low density. 7) Melting point Non-metal have very low melting point. But Graphite and diamond have very high melting point . 8) Thermal conductivity Non-metal are insulators they do not allow heat to pass through them. But graphite is a good conductor of heat. 9) Electricity conductivity Non-metal are insulators they do not allow electricity to pass through them. But graphite is a good conductor of electricity. 10) Brittleness: Non-metals are brittle in nature. When non-metals are beaten with the help of hammer, they are converted into powder. This property is known as brittleness. Non-metals are not able to conduct electricity or heat very well.
