For more: https://www.cgtn.com/video A video clip showing a group of workers trimming an elephant’s tusk in Kerala, a southern state in India, has alarmed animal rights groups. Artisans can be seen cutting, sawing and shaving the animal’s tusk, using old and rusted tools. During the entire process, the elephant keeps lying on the ground, frequently gasping. The video was shot at Thiruvarattukav, near Attingal of Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala on November 6. Such trimming is done to remove broken or damage part of the tusk. @chaitanyareddymuthyala29673 years ago Don' t over worry, they see their elephants as their sons, some even view them as lord ganesha, so most of the elephants are well treated, giving id="hidden1" an injection to a child doesn' t mean we are hurting him, it' s same with elephants, if we don' t trim the tusks of tamed elephants, their tusks poses sivere threat to them. ...Expand 49

@guestuser16714 years ago I don' t get this. Yes, there areowned" elephants in india and indonesia who are horribly mistreated and are in dire need of rescue and a good home. But this elephant looks healthy and in good shape, and the (necessary! Tusk trimming is done in the most careful and professional manner. It only takes a few minutes and the elephant doesn' t even flinch. Seriously, ptea should focus on the elephants who really need it. ...Expand 82

@sara92716 years ago Tusks don' t have blood flow nor a root so it probably can' t feel pain through it. I imagine the elephant is a little sedated otherwise it probably would be a risk to those around it. 17
